Prevent Depression with Routine Exercise

Exercise is one important thing that can support the health of the body, but it seems many people still underestimate this one activity. According to experts, exercise not only makes the body healthier and fit, but exercise can prevent us from feeling depressed.

A study was conducted to link the relationship between exercise and risk of depression. The study which lasted for many years was conducted by survey method and involved about 50,000 women. The participants also have their health checked for accurate results.

From this survey researchers eventually discovered that doing exercise routine, at least done regularly for several years, can reduce the risk of depression. For those who regularly exercise about 90 minutes or more a day, have an increased risk of depression 20% smaller compared with those who exercised for 10 minutes a day.

Researchers also revealed that a person who often lazy, rarely move and only to fill free time with leisure (e.g. watching TV) may be at high risk for depression later in life. “These findings could add to the evidence that physical activity is essential for brain health,” said Dr. Gillian Mead.

This study was not able to provide evidence that leaving the sports activity can lead to depression. But according to experts, leave the habit of lazing by moving the active and exercise can affect our mood toward a better and increase endorphins which are supposed to relieve stress or depression.
